|Navrati meaning ‘nine nights’ is a significant Hindu festival, which is celebrated twice a year on ‘Chaitra Navratri’ (March-April) and ‘Sharad Navratri’ (October-November). The Navratri Festival solely centres on the 3 avatars of Goddess Shakti - Durga, Lakshmi, and Saraswati. Every region in India celebrates this festival in its own way. Navratri 2012 festival is from 23rd March to 1st April.
The devotees observe fast during the festival and break their fast on the eighth day (Ashtami) or ninth day (Navami). They carry out rituals of ‘Kanchika Pujan’, which involves worshipping nine young girls, representing the nine forms of Goddess Durga.
